Jo Ankier is one of the more versatile sports reporters working out of the UK. Before Jo's successful transition into broadcasting, she became one of Great Britain's most decorated track & field athletes, serving as the ambassador for the London 2012 Olympics as she led the campaign to "win the bid" for the games.
Jo Ankier has served as both an in-studio anchor and remote reporter for Sky Sports News, Chelsea TV, UKTV Sport and Fox Soccer Channel. Currently, since Jo has made the permanent move to the US, she is now the face of KDOC-TV in Los Angeles. In addition, Jo has been hosting and reporting for ESPN International both in the US and the Caribbean, while also serving as the lead MLS reporter for Chivas USA.
One of the things Jo enjoyed most about being an athlete was the opportunity it gave her to travel. Jo was named a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Sport for Peace Program "Players for Peace." Competing in and around many small pockets of Europe, Africa, Far East and Australia, often visiting the less well-known regions and mixing with the locals sparked Jo's ongoing passion for travel.
The demands of training as a world-class athlete as well as being a sports and fitness model have pushed Jo to develop a deep understanding of health, fitness and diet at the highest level. From the newest fitness techniques and gym equipment, to maintaining a diet that reflects optimal performance and physique, Jo has a deep rooted interest in all things related to the health and fitness industry.
While dabbling in the worlds of science and even dreams of becoming a pilot, Jo's athletics career took off during her college years and she decided after graduation to follow this path, becoming a professional athlete competing on the British Track and Field team. Competing for Adidas in international events such as the World Championships and Commonwealth Games, Jo broke the UK records for the 2000m and 3000m Steeplechase events.
By the age of 15, Jo was already a professional level cellist, a dedicated pianist and had won the first of many national titles as a middle distance runner. With both her cello teacher and track coach battling over whether she would attend a music or sports college, Jo decided to follow her childhood passion for science and technology by attending the University of Nottingham where she earned a degree in physics and philosophy.
From the grandest stages in sports to sidelines of countless major events, Jo Ankier's versatility was evident from her first day on the air. Jo's easy-going style and fun approach has put athletes and entertainers alike at ease. But what's earned the respect of not only the people she interviews, but also her bosses, is the preparation and thought she puts into every assignment. Jo's work ethic is unparalleled, which is indicative of how she has been able to master so many different disciplines.
